Join us for an extraordinary evening of incredible music as we open the 46th Elora Festival with the brilliance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The concert opens with movements from his incomparable opera, Idomeneo, and continues with the elegant and radiant Piano Concerto in A Major, K.488, a work of sublime beauty and lyricism. Be captivated by sensational South Korean-Canadian pianist, Chelsea Ahn, in this work known for the emotional depth of its beloved Adagio movement.
The evening continues with the majestic and powerful Mass in C Minor, K.427, featuring the exceptional Canadian soprano, Karina Gauvin. Often called the “Great Mass”, this monumental choral work from 1783 is a testament to Mozart’s mastery of sacred music. With dramatic arias, intricate fugues, and moments of profound spirituality, this Mass showcases the full range of Mozart’s genius.

UKRAINIAN SALON: AGAINST ALL HOPE’ WE HOPE
Ukrainian culture is as rich and precious as the black Ukrainian soil that earned the country its nickname as “the breadbasket of Europe.” As Russia redraws borders, indiscriminately bombing civilians, schools and hospitals and doing everything in its power to make Ukrainian resilience impossible, we turn to that precious culture. “Sing my songs where evil holds its sway,” wrote Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka and that is exactly what we plan to do, weaving a program that will unite the music of Western and Eastern Ukraine, including Canadian premieres of works by Valentin Bibik, Leonid Desyatnikov, Vladimir Nalyvaiko as well as Ukrainian art and folk songs.

Beethoven’s Missa solemnis, described by the composer as his greatest work, delivers a powerful experience of his genius. Conductor Jean-Sébastien Vallée, leading the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir as well as top instrumentalists and soloists, makes this epic choral piece a fitting end to the choir’s 130th season. This performance also honours the choir’s long history, returning to a piece they premiered to Canadian audiences nearly a century ago.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of Journey, Austin Wintory took arguably the very best score for a digital experience yet written, and created a symphonic suite chronicling the pilgrimage of the Traveler from its nascence through to its apotheosis. After recording this suite with the London Philharmonic, the Kingston Symphony and the Isabel Voices have the honour of performing it in concert for the very first time. We pair the Traveler with Tchaikovsky’s stunningly beautiful Romeo and Juliet for an unforgettable musical odyssey!
